Gaga’s Version of Harley May Stray From the Comics

The singer and actress was spotted by a fan filming a scene as Harley Quinn for the upcoming Joker sequel.
With production on Todd Phillips’ DC Elseworlds sequel Joker: Folie à Deux now in full swing, fans everywhere are anxious to get any candid sneak peeks they can at both Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker and Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn, which marks the award-winning singer’s official debut into the new DCU. Luckily, on the back of leaked behind-the-scenes photos of a chase sequence with Joker that hit the internet a few days ago, per a report from The Direct, there is now footage of Gaga on set in Los Angeles as her character Harleen Quinzel.

New Joker 2 Set Photos Reveal A Possible Second Joker, Or More
The photos and clips above popping up on social media show Lady Gaga officially in costume and character as Harleen Quinzel, not yet her alter ego Harley Quinn. She’s seen wearing an otherwise normal outfit with a dark jacket, a bright-colored scarf, and a grey beanie over her trademark long blonde hair. Judging by the clip taken by a passerby, she looked to be filming a scene on the streets of Gotham, standing in front of a sedan, pondering something. While it’s difficult to tell for certain behind the camera crew, it looks like she maybe breaks the window of a shop nearby and steals something, which would allude to her eventual life of crime alongside the Joker.
KC Walsh of The Direct, considered a reliable source, reported earlier of a rumor that Phillips’ rendition of Harley Quinn will rework her character to being a committed patient at Arkham Asylum that falls in love with the Joker, rather than as psychiatrist falling in love while attempting to treat him. In keeping in line with Phillips’ more grounded take on the Joker’s world, this reportedly is intended to make the beginning of their love story more believable. Phillips himself has yet to confirm this change though.
While Lady Gaga first arrived at the Los Angeles set back in the beginning of February, it’s unclear whether this is her first actual day of shooting on set in character. Either way, more clips and photos of her debut as Harley Quinn will likely flood the internet in the coming weeks and months, building up even more hype for the film’s 2024 release. The singer is definitely keeping herself busy, with it being confirmed by Variety not long ago that she will in fact make the trip from the Joker set to the 95th Academy Awards this evening to perform her latest hit “Hold My Hand”, which has also been nominated for a Best Music Oscar.
Joker: Folie à Deux premieres in theaters on October 4, 2024.
