What Role Could Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn Play In Joker 2?
New set photos from Todd Philips’ Joker: Folie à Deux reveal a better look at Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn, who stars opposite Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker.
New Joker: Folie à Deux set photos give a better look at Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn in the movie. The film is a sequel to 2019’s Joker, which became the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all-time, and amassed a number of important awards, including a Best Actor win for star Joaquin Phoenix at the Oscars. Now, Joker: Folie à Deux is going bigger, with a musical theme for the sequel — a pioneer among superhero movies — that adds Gaga’s version of DC’s Harley Quinn alongside Phoenix’s Joker.
On Twitter, Home of DCU shared the first set photos of Gaga filming Joker: Folie à Deux.
Margot Robbie isn’t Harley Quinn in Joker 2, as the movie is set in a different universe from the main DC one, as explained by new DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn at the January DC Universe slate reveal. Joker: Folie à Deux is an “Elseworlds” story, which allows the movie to experiment with the laws of superhero movies as director Todd Phillips sees fit, as well as deviate from the source material, which some rumors indicate to be the case where Gaga’s Harley Quinn is concerned.

Harley Quinn & Joker’S Romance Confused Margot Robbie, Too
Harley Quinn is known, both in the comics and the movies Robbie has appeared in, as a doctor who falls for her deranged patient, the Joker. Joker’s hospital ending set up Harley Quinn meeting the criminal first as her Dr. Harleen Quinzel persona in Joker: Folie à Deux. Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck was last seen running around Arkham Asylum, the place that connects both of the lunatic criminals in the comics, but some rumors suggest the characters’ dynamic will not be the same as in many other DC movies and shows.
According to the Joker: Folie à Deux rumors, Harley Quinn will also be a patient at Arkham Asylum when she meets the Joker, a major departure from the character’s comic book history. While there is no confirmation of the movie’s change to Harley’s history, Gaga’s Harley Quinn Joker 2 casting is good either way. Be her playing a doctor descending into madness, or a psychiatric patient that tries to escape — both Arkham and reality — alongside the Joker, Gaga brings a unique factor to the table that makes her the perfect choice for Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie à Deux. After all, she is one of the world’s best singers.
Joker was a movie that brought a strong level of realism to the DC Comics character, with a dark tale of a man losing his sanity. Joker: Folie à Deux is set to delve even deeper into Arthur Fleck’s psyche, with the movie being a musical, said to be in the vein of La La Land, with bigger than life sequences that illustrate the characters’ thoughts. Joker 2’s Harley Quinn and Arthur Fleck romance will be heightened by this exploration of the characters’ inner thoughts put on display, with Gaga’s musical talents promising a great superhero musical in Joker: Folie à Deux.
