‘1080P PREMIUM’ OPTION IS COMING SOON TO YOUTUBE

YouTube appears to be starting another experimental feature. Like the last time, it is a new video option that will strictly be for Premium subscribers. It goes by ‘1080p Premium,’ which, as the name suggests, will offer 1080p video but with premium quality.

But isn’t 1080p already good enough on YouTube? Well, if you take a closer look at the current playback info, you will find that the bitrate is anywhere from 8 Mbps to 10 Mbps. And 1080p videos with a higher bitrate can really change the experience. Well, that is exactly what the team is onto.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUTUBE 1080P PREMIUM
The 1080p Premium feature is already in the experimental stage. And as a Reddit user reports, it is currently available to a good number of YouTube users. As mentioned earlier, the feature mainly focuses on enhancing the bitrate of the playback. Also, from what the testing phase suggests, it might first roll out for mobile users.

But what exactly will higher bitrate 1080p playback offer? Well, considering the fact that there will be less compression, the overall image quality will see a massive boost. So, does that mean that non-premium users will have to see a lower bitrate video than before?

GIZCHINA NEWS OF THE WEEK

he chance of that happening is extremely unlikely, as YouTube will need to face a lot of backlash with this move. But it is true that with the 1080p Premium option, there will be a good middle ground between normal 1080p and 4K. The problem with 4K is that it is high bitrate and higher in resolution.
